3 Simple Christmas activities at home to make Jesus the center of your child’s Christmas memory's
Christmas in our home is very busy. With two little ones under 4 and another on the way, it's been on my heart to not let this season pass by without creating lasting family memories that truly show our heart for Jesus.
I desire to disciple my kids through action, not just words alone. Part of this is coming up with little ways to my Jesus real and the bible stories impactful. Here is a small list that I’m working on at home this year, and I hope you'll be able to try a few with your children.
Nativity Sugar Cookie
Buy pre-made dough or make it from scratch, but when it comes to cutting out the cookies, use nativity-shaped cutters! Either read the Nativity story in Luke 2: 1-21 or use the Devo that is included with the cookie cutters above.
I love reading the story and asking my son to find the star, sheep, or baby Jesus as I read the story and cut out our cookies in the dough.
Reading the miracle of the Christmas story over our kids year after year will develop a love for God’s word and provide an opportunity to worship together.
Bake a Birthday Cake for Jesus
All year long, we talk about birthdays! Mom’s birthday, dad’s, little sister’s, Each time we talk about how they got to pick their cake and that we love them and get to celebrate them by singing happy birthday and blowing out the candle. It’s always fun to have a party.
To make it easy, get our family's favorite box cake mix, we love funfetti, and have your children help either make or decorate the cake. Then, when it’s ready, sing happy birthday to Jesus as a family and pray and thank him for being born and living a perfect life to die on the cross for our sins, rising again defeating sin and death, and giving eternal life to all who believe in Him! It may feel big to pray or say these truths out loud over our kids, but this is the best way to introduce Jesus to them, by speaking truth.
Watch The Star
This is a children’s animated movie from a donkey’s perspective of witnessing the birth of Jesus the Messiah. It's super cute, well done, and a great movie to talk about the true meaning of Christmas. We love making a bowl of popcorn and hot cocoa and cuddling up on the couch.
I pray that these little ideas help your family create lasting memories and a way to talk about Jesus and his birth in a way that your children can start to understand
